PEPTIDE RESEARCH TOPIC

NAD+

NAD+ is a cellular coenzyme involved in redox chemistry and enzyme signaling. Browse direct NAD+ research, precursor distinctions, metabolic studies, and evidence limits.

TOPIC OVERVIEW

About NAD+

Identity and names

NAD+ denotes the oxidized form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. NADH is its reduced counterpart; NR and NMN are related precursors rather than synonyms.

Compound type

It is a nucleotide coenzyme, not a peptide. Endogenous NAD+, a precursor supplement, and an infused preparation are different exposures.

Mechanism

NAD+ supports redox reactions and serves as a substrate for enzymes including sirtuins and PARPs. Its cellular role does not determine the effect of a marketed product.

Research focus and evidence

Human research includes metabolite measurements and precursor pharmacokinetics. Direct NAD+ infusion evidence must be assessed separately from oral precursor studies.

Regulatory status and limits

A change in circulating metabolites is not proof of slowed aging or disease treatment. Preparation, route, tolerability, and clinical endpoints need independent evaluation.

RESEARCH SUMMARY

What Is NAD+?

LAST VERIFIEDOctober 7, 2026

A small human infusion pilot examined how directly administered NAD+ and its metabolites appeared in plasma and urine. The study concerns metabolic disposition, and does not establish an anti-aging or disease-treatment benefit. Direct NAD+ infusion pilot

Human pharmacokinetic work on nicotinamide riboside showed changes in the NAD+ metabolome after oral NR. Because NR is a precursor, that study cannot be substituted for a trial of direct NAD+ administration. NR human pharmacokinetic study

Primary sources: ClinicalTrials.gov (defined search)Checked October 7, 2026. Counts include interventional registry records with an explicit matching intervention name or alias; broad search results, biomarker-only observations, and unrelated compounds are excluded. Active includes recruiting, not yet recruiting, active not recruiting, and enrolling by invitation. PubMed is the linked title/abstract query count, not a number of clinical trials or a measure of evidence quality. Precursor-only interventions, Qualia blend labels, reduced NADH, and NAD biomarker tests are not counted as direct NAD+ interventions. Comparative trials with an explicit NAD+ arm can be included.

Registry status does not establish safety, efficacy, or regulatory approval.
